Romulus Folio Gallery-launch
On Thursday, April 17th, we launched the Romulus Folio Gallery—a project very close to my heart and a milestone in my ongoing artistic journey. As part of the Artist in Residence program at The Gladstone, this gallery space is not only a place to exhibit work but a living, breathing environment for creativity, connection, and transformation.
This residency—made possible by the generous support of The Gladstone and FB Ideas—has allowed me to reimagine what a gallery can be. Instead of a conventional white cube, this space invites people into a process: an open studio, a working environment, and a public platform for creative experimentation.
My vision with this project was never just about showing finished works, but about creating a space that reflects the values underpinning my practice—openness, sensitivity to place, collaboration, and a belief in the quiet power of creativity to restore and transform.
If you weren’t able to join us for the opening, I hope you’ll come by soon and experience the current exhibition before our Melbourne Design Week presentation ends on June 5th or our upcoming Tides and Transformations exhibition starting June 11th.
One of the most meaningful aspects of this journey has been working alongside filmmaker and video artist Samuel Galloway. Sam is currently documenting the residency, and his lighting installation—featured during the launch—offered an atmospheric, poetic layer to the night. His video works will also be part of upcoming exhibitions.
There are many people I’m deeply grateful to:
To Kate Spencer from FB Ideas—thank you for your faith in this project, and your ongoing generous support, sage advice and encouragement from day one.
To The Gladstone’s team and resident community—thank you for embracing the unknown and welcoming art into the everyday.
To Scott Ross, who built the gallery walls with tireless generosity and helped ground this vision in practical reality.
And to my mum and dad, who have stood beside me through every exhibition I’ve exhibited in at other galleries and now my own made possible through this residency. Their catering at the launch was not just beautiful and delicious—it reflected the same love, detail, and quiet strength that has carried me through years of recovery and creative rebuilding. Thank you for everything. And thank you to Joey, who helped welcome guests with warmth and care.
This evening was a celebration—but it also marked a beginning. I look forward to sharing what’s still to come, and I invite you to keep following the journey as it unfolds here at Angelina Mirabito Art and Romulus Folio and in person at The Gladstone.
